FAQ

Here you will find the most frequently asked questions. They are organized by product.

(Digital?) Mastering

I will prepare the audio files ready for cutting but I do not cut the lacquer. Pricing doesn’t change. All you need to do is to tell me in the comment that it is for vinyl and make sure your files are identified A1, B1 etc.

No. This mastering price is for a single track. If you’d like to master multiple tracks add more to the quantity you’re buying (beside the “Add to cart” button) or have a look at our mastering bundles.

No, just export a single WAV file to have mastered.

Send a single WAV file export of your entire track. Do not send stems. If you

Please include a download link from Wetransfer.

Bounce your track(s) with no compression on the master, with -6dB of headroom, in 24-bit minimum wav/aif format. For digital mastering, the sample rate of 44khz is ok but for analog mastering, I prefer 48 or 96khz. Do NOT use dithering when exporting.

Definitely for analog produced tracks, or if your track feels too cold. But it’s a matter of tastes, really. But many people really love passing simple music that has been made digitally to get a true analog saturation that gives this extra oomph to a song.

Ideally it should be a WAV file (16 bits and up, stereo or not). MP3 is acceptable but it won’t produce as nice of a result. ZIP your file and and send it to Pheek (info@pheek.com) through WeTransfer.

Because I believe that new upcoming artists have the right to access quality services. I’m currently happy with how are going and my prices are OK with me. Yes, they’re lower than the industry’s standards, but it doesn’t mean I put in less effort.

This refers to how loud you want your music. “Soft” is around -14LUFS, is lower than the average, and is well-suited to ambient music. “Reference” means that you want the same loudness as a specific song (please include a YouTube link or download link to a WAV file). “Industry Standard” means I will check the loudness average for the genre of your track, and will match it so it fits online stores. “Loudest” is for EDM type or hard techno music that requires around -7LUFS.

This refers to how much correction I will do for you. If you want to have the song identical to what you submitted but louder and with technical fixes, then you should select “transparent.” The “creative” option is if you are wanting me to use whatever tools are needed to transform your song to fit the current trends that your song fits with. It can be dramatic or subtle (including a link to a reference song can help). I might use widening, reverbs, or other means to give your song a complete facelift, but please tell me how much you’d like. Learn more here: https://youtu.be/ES9g-Shfees

Tracks longer than 10-15 minutes require time and work, and are sometimes considered multiple tracks depending on the work required. Please contact me for an estimate.

Podcast mastering includes mastering of a file up to one-hour in length. If your podcast is longer, contact me for an estimate.

Yes and no—it depends how much work they require. Please contact me for an estimate.

(Digital?) Mixdown

Please use wetransfer and zip the files.

Please export all channels individually of your song. The sends/FX sent as extra channels as well. All in 24bits. Do not normalize and do not use dithering on the export.

Only if you use Ableton’s plugins. External AU/VST plugins will not work. You can freeze channels though.

You’ll learn a lot; you’ll hear exactly how your track is supposed to sound so you will have a clear reference for your future tracks. I can also provide written feedback.

Clients who only want their song to have potential mixing issues fixed (phase, clipping, conflicts, etc.) should select “transparent”, but if you feel your work needs a good facelift to sound like your favorite songs, select “coloured”—it will be the same song, but enhanced.

There are 4 revisions included in the pricing. People can use revisions to fix issues or to ask different versions of their track: instrumental, accapella, less bass, different kick, etc. You can buy more revisions too as we go.

30 minutes of discussion on any topic with me by video (Zoom, recorded for future consultation). People like to talk about the project or ask technical questions but anything can go.

Yes and that would be a very good move. Committing to work with me will force you to put your project to term as well as I can check your project, do a rough mix session (part of the revisions) and then you will find easier to finish your track as it will sound good.

There’s a lot of benefits of using high quality plugins instead of stock ones included in your DAW. I am an obsessed collector and will be happy to propose you a better range of reverbs, delays, etc. I can also reproduce to my best efforts, some songs you like. Sound design comes with the service of track finalization, as well as structure edits.

Because this headroom is necessary for mastering.

There are 2 revisions included in the pricing. People can use revisions to fix issues or to ask different versions of their track: instrumental, accapella, less bass, different kick, etc. You can buy more revisions too as we go. Since analog is time consuming, I will send multiple tests of your song and once we like the results, I’ll do the final bounce.

This comes from the equipment. It is part of the analog charm. Some people don’t like it and I’d recommend you to take a digital mix instead. I can’t easily remove it.

Coaching and Consulting

We’ll schedule a session date after you order, and then use video conferencing (Zoom) software to do one-on-one Ableton Live training, sound design, mixing, etc. Whatever you want to work on – it’s your choice!

Yes, we will work using one of your songs so I see how you work. I can propose ideas for improvement as we go.

Pheek offers a free initial examination of your project before getting into the consultation. If you have additional questions about this product, contact Pheek to get answers.

Yes. You’ll get to see me work on your music and hear it in high resolution.

Ideally a computer with sound (please test Zoom before the session as technical troubleshooting makes us precious time), a microphone and webcam (Yes, I like to see who I work with!).

Track Finalization

No, you need to send me a track that is roughly 80% done.

Yes, a mixdown is included. I will tweak arrangements, add sounds if needed then finalize it with a profession touch.

Yes. Imagine the meal you cooked but finalized by a chef. It’s still the same, but it will be next level tastier.

No. Many professional artists have tons of ideas but no time. They work with people to make it the best possible. Micheal Jackson had Quincy Jones and he was still getting all the recognition for the ideas he had.

At the end of the process, I can export all channels separately so you can remix or use what I return to you any way you want.

The consultation is a 30 minute talk about what I did to your work, and I can provide you with feedback on your track. This feedback is very technical, but we can discuss anything you want.

If you’re interested in having a copy of the Ableton Project I used to see how I worked, please select this option as an “add-on” to your purchase.

If you want it can be! Like the Beastie Boys working with Money Mark. However if my name is used as a collaborator, I might want a bit more to say in the end result 😉
